Mom told me this story recently ~ When she was a very little girl, her favorite stuffed animal was a leopard she named Leopold. Mom had a difficult childhood, and Leopold was the closest thing to softness and nurturence that she had in her young life.
I think she just got that I am Leopold, in the flesh so to speak. Yeah, I'm a tiger not a leopard, but calling me a tiger cat is really a misnomer because my stripes and spots have me looking more like an ocelot or a leopard than a tiger.
So here I am, the love of my mom's life. We're together all the time and we nurture each other. Both of us think the reason for our respective lives is to be here for each other, to take care of each other, to give and receive unconditional love. We're both mighty grateful to have one another.

I have a condition called "allergic dermatitis." That means my skin is prone to itch in the presence of antigens. A single flea bite can initiate a very long stretch of itching, biting myself to scratch the itching, and the consequent scabs under my coat. It's been a couple years at least since I had a flea bite, but still I itched a lot, much of the time.
Through a process of trial and error, and periodic changes to my diet, mom's suspicion turned out to be correct ~ I am allergic to grain. As I suspect many animals are without their owners realizing it. Although there are more and more grain-free catfoods available these days, so the petfood folks must be wising up to this issue.
The thing is, in our experience, most (perhaps all?) vets don't recognize this. I'm not knocking veterinarians...but just like doctors prescribe drugs because they get kickbacks and freebies from drug companies, so do vets recommend certain petfood brands that aren't really good for animals. In addition to grain in petfood in general, many of these brands contain a high percentage of peanut hulls, which are indigestible, and huge amounts of corn, most of which is genetically modified. Bad stuff.
Go for grain-free food. It just might cure whatever ails you.

So Auntie Vicky was over the other day and asked if mom thought I'd be coming home soon with tattoos! Ya think?

Guess I just don't have that much to say anymore. I've become the strong silent type. But I hope you'll keep coming back anyhow, because I'll show up whenever I do...to say hi...between catnaps.
Ciao for now.

I had a little workout on the rug last night. Ooh, it feels so good to stretch...especially after sleeping all day.
I end with my "butt scootched up against the back of the sofa" pose.
Have a good weekend, catfans!
(At this very moment I am parading back and forth in front of mom while she's being the good scribe.)

Actually, perhaps it IS my responsibility after all. Perhaps I'm not persuasive enough to cajole her into helping me manage my blog on a more timely basis. Okay. Mea culpa.
Anywho, this is a scene from a recent morning, any recent morning as they're all the same from my point of view. After my breakfast I'll jump onto the table where mom's doing her computer thing and park myself in front of the wireless keyboard (visible on the left, behind my butt). Which is why that keyboard is pushed to the rear of the operation.
When I'm here, mom uses the computer's keyboard. Smart her, huh? I still can't stop her from typing no matter how hard I try. And I do try, quite hard sometimes. Often I'll parade back and forth on the table in front of mom, waving my tail in her face, making a real nuisance of myself.
So it'll officially be summer in a few days. That doesn't mean a whole lot living on the North Coast, unless you live a few miles inland where it IS hot and dry. Here on the coast (and more specifically the bluff where we live), it's frequently overcast in the morning, and after maybe an hour or two of sun and warmth, the wind will pick up and cool things right off again.
As Mark Twain once said, "Everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it." He also said, "The worse winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." We're 250 miles north of there, but still, his point is well taken.

Mom calls me "BeeGee Rose" all the time, that IS my name, after all. She also tells me often that if she were a botanist and could hybridize roses, she'd create one called the BeeGee rose. It might be a deep rusty orange with tinges of brown. That's sweet of her, isn't it?
If that ever happened, I'd lobby strongly for the new rose to honor the actual Bee Gees instead of me. They were one of mom's favorite groups, I was named after them, and sadly there's only one (Barry) remaining of the original three.
Life happens. Things change.

The weather was lovely earlier this week, now it's coldish again, but hopefully just temporarily. I do love the windows open and the breezes coming through. But not today.
Okay...back to my nap.

Winter is slowly becoming spring where we are. The weather has warmed up a few degrees, but still there's intermittent rain most days. It's kind of boring.
I'll write again sooner, I promise. Purrs and meows to you all.

I especially like wet weather because then mom spends more time in the house with me. So I'm in kitty heaven these rainy days. And they won't last forever, so I'm making the most of it...hanging out with mom as much as I can, being a pest whenever possible, doing darn near everything to make sure I'm part of the mix, wherever she is and whatever she's doing.
When's Easter this year? Is it time for me to dig out my bunny ears yet?
See you soon, catfans. Purrs and meows from Beeg!

Mom's so good about catching me in the act. You'd think I'd learn to keep my paws off things. Nah, I'm a cat after all. I pretty much have the run of the place (but don't tell mom, 'cause she still thinks she's in control).
Have a cool weekend, catfans!

Spring weather has set in here on the North Coast. I've learned not to be fooled by this flush of warm, sunny weather, though. For the past several years, our winter, meaning a ton of rain, hasn't arrived until March. And then March, April and May have been wet, wet, WET! And then summer has been cool and damp. So what we've got right now, this gorgeous weather, could be all the spring we get this year. Time will tell.
Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend.
Purrs and meows,

We've got a big storm coming in tonight here on the North Coast. Mom and I are looking forward to it, we've been waiting for rain so we can cuddle on the couch, as if we need incentive or excuse. We'll see if that really happens, the cuddling on the couch part.
Rain on the way is the biggest news so far this year from our corner of paradise. I'll report back with an update in a few days.
